Job Search Tips for College Graduates
Job Search Tips for College Graduates After years of attending classes, studying, and taking exams, you have finally graduated! You have your degree in hand and are ready to start your job search. So, whatâs your first step? Even in a strong economy, starting out on the job search is never easy. In a down economy, it can be even harder. However, there are plenty of things you can be doing to get your job search started off on the right foot. Your Resume Your resume is the first impression you give an employer. The content, format and style should be created in a manner that represents the value and expertise you offer, as well as appealing enough to stand above the stack of resumes the employer will be receiving for the open position. If you arenât comfortable writing your own resume, consider consulting a professional writing service to help you out. Professional writers are trained to create individualized resumes that generate interviews. Networking Research professional organizations within your industry. Many have jobs posted on their sites, as well as have details of upcoming job fairs and other networking events. If you know of friends or colleagues involved in any of the organizations youâre interested in, contact them to see if it would benefit you to join as well. Interview Prep Start now preparing for future interviews. While your parents and friends may give you interview tips, they wonât be there holding your hand during the interview-you need to be ableto dazzle an employer on your own! Have 1-2 outfits readily available for interviews, as well as copies of your resume prepared to take with you. Read blogs and books that offer interview advice and if you have time, always research the company before you head into the interview. Being able to speak the company language will show the hiring manager you are serious about joining their team.

Using the Primacy and Regency Effect Resume Writing
Using the Primacy and Regency Effect Resume WritingUnderstanding the Primacy and Regency Effect Resume Writing and how it relates to other areas is a skill many people don't have. Before you become a professional, one of the most important parts of your resume is making a solid first impression. An experienced employee that starting a new job is going to be working hard to do everything the person they will be interviewing says they are going to do. While some people know how to lie and not look stupid to an interviewer or to the interviewer themselves; it will take time and a few years of experience for people to become successful at it.The reason why most people find it easy to lie and look stupid when being interviewed is because the ancient people that lived at that time were very practical people. When interviewing, a person will be asking the candidate to do something that could potentially help the company grow. If the company does not grow, they are gone and no one will ever know it. All that the candidates need to do is meet the standards of the company. That is a skill that is very valuable and makes it easy to make friends with the people who interviewed you. In the process of how this can affect your resume, you will also see the importance of bringing your educational history to your interview. During the interview, they are also likely to ask you a question about what you are doing now and what you plan to do in the future. The potential employers are going to also have an idea of your educational background. If you do not have a degree, the chances are you have not been in the same high school as the people you are interviewing with. This can give you a huge disadvantage because you have nothing to compare yourself to. If you don't know any history, do not even think about it.If youdo have a degree, the company will be able to use this to the company advantage. This is because they want someone who has the knowledge and the ability to learn as well as the candidates with no degrees. Although the academic level of the person interviewing is of course very important, the language and the personality will also play a major role in how they handle the situation. To be truthful, some people do know how to lie and look stupid in front of an interviewer or an employer. This is true for most people. The only people that will use the skill of lying and looking stupid to get you a job is when they are trying to keep you in the company as a member of the team, or trying to switch from a complex career transition to a new entry level position. The real world has a way of offering a second chance. If you have a nice part time job and even find it hard to find a job, you can always go to college and pursue a degree in something that you like. You will learn to be honest and have your skills become a part of the new resume.Using the Primacy and Regency Effect Resumes Writing is a skill that can become very valuable for many of the people who have the potential to use it. Since the time machine was invented, most people have come to the conclusion that no one will ever lie or look stupid in front of an employer. Only those who use it will be truthful and have that skill, making it a key asset to their job search.

Every one of those flaws inhibits your ability to distinguish yourself. As someone whos been in executive recruiting for over 15 years, Ive seen hiring cycles ebb and flow. My Side Hustle Makes Me A Better Employee Heres How
My Side Hustle Makes Me A Better Employee Heres How If you told someone 20 years ago that they could create an entire business in a matter of minutes, you wouldve been met with skepticism or, more likely, denial. But thanks to new technologies, social media platforms and cutting-edge website-building services like Squarespace, these days you can do just that.Senior Data Scientist Laura Elsener has gotten familiar with all sides of these advancements since becoming both an employee and a customer of Squarespace. Elsener, who used Squarespace in order to found her stationary brand, nu rule, says that being able to personally identify with her customers helps her excel in her role. And the benefits are two-fold.We spoke to Elsener about what makes her side hustle successful, how Squarespace is fueling her passion and her best advice for job seekers and creators.Tell us about your job (at Squarespace). What are your main priorities at work?Im a Senior Data Scientist at Squarespace, wit h a focus on Customer Operations. Customer Operations hilfes Squarespace users through self-help tools and chat/emaille support. As a Data Scientist, I help the Customer Operations team remain data-driven in its approach to growing and developing Customer Operations. This ranges from projects like testing the effectiveness of new support offerings, to understanding self-service usage patterns. I answer broad questions like Why do customers request support? and granular questions like What is the impact of wait time on customer satisfaction? Ultimately, my work enables Customer Operations to be increasingly data-driven on decisions large and small. What were you doing previously/what has your career path looked like?I began my career doing social impact investing within a large bank. My group invested in community development projects such as affordable housing and early childhood education programs. Looking to pivot out of finance, I took a role working in supply chain at an e-commer ce startup. I quickly learned that I thrive in the fast-paced technology environment. Thats also where I grew my passion for analytics, transforming data into actionable insights that helped create and monitor strategic priorities for the business. My interest in continuing to develop analytical skills to impact strategy lumineszenzdiode me to my current role as a Data Scientist at Squarespace, where Ive been for a little over a year now. What drew you to work at your current company?A companys mission is an important factor for me when evaluating an employer. Squarespaces mission resonates with me, because its about empowering people. The exact language is Squarespace empowers people with creative ideas to succeed. Millions of people use our product to share their stories, art, products and beyond. The diverse customer base and empowerment/growth opportunities we create for customers keeps me motivated and passionate about working here and continuously improving Squarespace.Whats yo ur favorite thing about your job?I hesitate to hierarchically select a single favorite aspect of my job, because its really a confluence of things. But if I had to choose one thing, itd be the people, since people are the underlying foundation of the environment, work and culture here. The diversity of experiences and interests of Squarespace employees continuously surprises me. We have concert pianists, photographers, chefs and artists that work here. Squarespace does a great job attracting creative and passionate individuals, and that employee base creates a really unique environment. My team is full of lifelong learners who organize talks, share papers and are always willing to share their knowledge with others. I feel incredibly lucky to work in an environment where people are continuously learning and are encouraged to do so.Tell us a bit about your side hustle. What do you do, how long have you been doing it, and how do you fit it into your schedule when you have a full-time jo b?In 2018, I launched a brand of female empowerment notebooks for women and our allies called nu rule. Nu is the pronunciation of ?, the Chinese word for woman, and rule refers to the fact that the notebooks are ruled. The notebooks have feminist titles like Resting Boss Face and My Feminist Agenda. The first page of each notebook explains the meaning behind the title and the ethos of the brand. I donate ten percent of proceeds to nonprofits helping to empower women, and seek to support women both through philanthropy and positive female messaging.I was passionate and excited about the idea, which means it didnt really feel like work and I launched the brand in about a month. After the initial time investment, the ongoing work is extremely flexible and I spend anywhere from zero to five hours a week working on nu rule. Ongoing work includes things like creating new titles, social media marketing and building retailer relationships. This flexibility allows me to vary the time I spend on nu rule based on other professional and personal priorities I have going on at a given time. That being said, Im excited about growing the brand, so if anything urgent comes up, Im usually able to make the time for itDo you think that being able to pursue your side hustle/passion makes you a better/more productive employee? If so, how?nu rule has directly impacted my work at Squarespace because its allowed me to use and engage with the Squarespace product. I used Squarespace to build my website, and in doing so, learned which aspects of the product are amazing or need improvement, and the customer experience. I bring this knowledge and empathy to my work, which Ive found immensely valuable. Understanding the end users helps employees be more effective, and a great way to enrich ones understanding of our customers is by being a customer. In addition, there is extensive literature around the drivers of employee productivity. Some of the common themes are around employee engagement and satisfaction. I believe that working on passion projects outside of the bro can positively impact an employees overall and workplace happiness. Developing and engaging in hobbies and projects is incredibly fulfilling, and can also teach you skills that are valuable in the workplace.Whats your no. 1 tip for women who are job searching but are unsure about whether theyre pursuing roles that are the perfect fit for them?If somebodys struggling to find the perfect fit for a job (or something else), Id challenge them to reevaluate their definition of perfect. The search for a job should begin with a self-evaluation wherein you identify your top priorities for your next role. The purpose of prioritization is to force yourself to consider trade-offs in order to delineate between your must-haves and nice-to-haves. A priority list should be short, with ideally no more than three items. Having a long list of priorities defeats the purpose of prioritization. Force yourself to be constraine d and thoughtful at this stage.Next, evaluate potential job opportunities through your prioritized lens. This will help you be objective in comparing opportunities against each other. Companies need to sell themselves in order to attract candidates, so will share what they believe to be the benefits and perks of working at their company. Arming yourself beforehand with a personal list of priorities will help you sift through the marketing, ask the right questions throughout the interview process and hopefully land your dream role.Whats the most memorable piece of career advice youve ever received?Early in my career, I was told to spend social capital. Social capital is the concept of goodwill, trust and empathy born out of interpersonal relationships and interactions. In the workplace, social capital can be built by developing your brand through a consistent track record. When I received this advice, Id been working really hard to exceed expectations in my role. I wanted to be trust ed with greater responsibilities and prove myself indispensable. I was building my reputation as a strong performer, or in other worlds, developing social capital. However, I had no plan or intention to spend my social capital. I established myself as a strong performer, but didnt leverage that to create new opportunities for myself. I learned that this font of behavior is common for young women, whereas other demographics are more comfortable using their social capital strategically.Per the advice I received to spend my social capital, I started being more strategic and deliberate with my career goals and used my social capital to help me achieve them. For example, I asked to be put on stretch projects in areas of the business I wanted to explore. I asked for more support when I was underwater with work, and eventually built out a team under me. These were some pivotal moments in my career where I leveraged the trust and reputation Id built to drive change. This advice meaningfully improved and altered my career trajectory, and Im grateful for the opportunities its afforded me.--Fairygodboss is proud to partner with Squarespace.Find a job there today

More and more customers ignore marketing campaigns and instead search for the companies offering the best coupon. Whats worse is that customers minimally engage with companies that spend time and money on social tools, causing brand influence and profits to decline.Sharing internal company stories is a great way HR can humanize its company and employees to customers. Much like spokesperson advertising, internal company stories tie a product or service to a face, giving customers an overall positive feeling about the people who are responsible for creating and distributing the companys products or services. Creating video clips of charismatic internal employees is one great way to engage customers. It Attracts TalentHR professionals know that not every employee at their company is 100 percent satisfied with his job. How to Control For me and Against me Thoughts
How to Control For me and Against me Thoughts How to Control For me and Against me Thoughts Because our jobs and careers are such a large and important aspect of our lives, its only normal to focus so much attention to these areas. But what happens when our thinking is unhealthy?FM and AM. For me and Against me thoughts. They are just like they sound. For me thoughts are those thoughts you have that bring you up, are encouraging and positive. Against me thoughts are the opposite degrading, depressing and negative. Many different things we come into contact with on a daily basis are always trying to tell us what and how to think this is pretty, that is unattractive, this is acceptable, that is not the path to go down. Yet, often times, the loudest voice we here is the one inside our heads.Controlling your thoughts - cutting back on AM and increasing FM thoughts - is an important step on the path to success. Below are five areas youre sure to encounter in the pursuit of your dreams, the AM thoughts that can come along with them, and how to turn your sticking thinking into FM thoughts.PassionEveryone has a passion or passions. Its whatever ignites the flame inside of you whatever lights that spark. Passions are usually uncontrollable, meaning you simply cannot help the way you feel. Ever since you watched your first episode of Law Order you wanted to be a detective, or your love for people is innate causing you to pursue opening a nonprofit. Yet, just because something is in inside of your heart, doesnt mean your mind always agrees.AM thoughts I do not have a passion I dont care about anything. My interests are too different.I cannot become successful working in a field related to my passions.FM thoughts Although I have yet to discover my passion, I will.My interests are original and unique.Success is waking up each day loving the work I do, not how much money I make.AbilitiesI believe everyone has a natural talent(s), but this doesnt mean people cannot learn ne w skills. Ive heard the saying that talent isnt born, its created, which means no matter who you are, you can master a craft if you put in the necessary time and effort to do so. Our abilities, gifts and talents are crucial to our future success because these skills are what allow us to become successful. Yet, using your gifts will be that much harder if 1) you dont believe you have any or 2) you arent confident in the ones you do have.AM thoughts I am untalented.I dont have what it takes.I am not as good as the next person.FM thoughts I am talented and have special gifts.I have what it takes to succeed.I do not focus on the skills of others, but continually sharpen and increase my own. Someone elses talent does not diminish my own.Goalsrahmen goals is a necessary step when trying to accomplish your dreams. Often times we look at the big picture, which is necessary, but breaking tasks down into smaller goals instead of aiming directly for the top helps. We have to remain focused and positive when executing the short-term goals because its very easy to fall into a negative mindset as 1) you wait for the end result and 2) you encounter roadblocks that may cause you to stumble along the way.AM thoughts My dreams are too big. This is impossible. Its rare to accomplish this kind of goal. Most people dont make it.FM thoughts No dream is too big. If I can see it, I can become it.With hard work and determination, nothing is impossible. The only one stopping me from accomplishing my goals is me.CouragePursuing your hopes and dreams isnt always easy. It will take a lot of courage to get out there and do what youve set your mind to do. It always seems more comfortable to avoid taking risks, but if you never try how will you know what you can and cannot do?AM thoughts This is too risky. What if I fail?I should just take the easy route and do something more realistic/tangible.FM thoughts Taking risks is how you experience new things in life.Theres no such thing as failure. Onl y lessons learned.Easier doesnt always mean better. An easy route wont challenge me to grow.PerseveranceThe ability to persevere is vital to becoming successful. Nothing in life will be handed to you. The path to accomplishing your goals will be filled with obstacles, hurdles and setbacks, but its how you react to the unexpected that counts. AM thoughts will cause you to throw in the towel and give up, but choosing to think FM thoughts can help you push through.AM thoughts This is too hard.I should just quit.I should have never tried to do this.FM thoughts If it were easy, everyone could do it.Ive come too far to give up.Either way theres going to be an election and someone is going to win. You may as well run. (Translation) If I dont try, someone else will.Remember, no one is guaranteed to be on your side when youre pursuing your goals. Controlling your thoughts will ensure that, at the end of the day, you will at least have one person who believes in you yourself.
